Self-Study FAQs

Frequently Asked QuestionS ABOUT SELF-STUDY

What is Self-Study?
Self-study is distinguished from “live events” (seminars, conferences and webinars) in that there is no interaction with a live instructor while taking the course. This allows you to take the course on your own schedule for a period of up to one year from the date of purchase.

Will the quality of the instruction be as good as the live event?
Yes. Our self-study programs are designed to include the exact instruction received by our live participants, while meeting the national self-study requirements mandated for acceptance by your state.

What happens after I purchase a self-study webinar?
You will receive an email notification with course access instructions. These instructions will include your unique course access passcode, allowing you to enter the course.

How do I take a self-study course?
Our self-study courses are built on an intuitive platform that utilizes a menu function and “next” and “back” functions to allow you to quickly navigate through the course. The courses consist of topical video segments, followed by review questions to enhance your understanding of the material. The courses conclude with a final examination.

Will I receive any reference material?
Yes. Each course includes a downloadable manual which contains the same materials as those utilized by the speaker. The manual can be “searched” for quick access to any section of the material you may want to review. The manual also contains a glossary of key terms.

Do I have to complete the course in one sitting?
No. The best thing about self-study is that you can complete a course in one day or take up to one year to complete it. There is no limit as to how many times you can stop and start the course. In fact, you can utilize our user-friendly interface to quickly find the sections of the video you may want to review more than once.

How will I receive credit?
To receive credit for a self-study course, you will need to complete a multiple choice final examination achieving a score of 70% or higher within one year of purchase. The final examination consists of five multiple choice questions per hour of credit. Our platform provides instant exam results, printable certificates of completion, and optional course evaluation feedback.

What if I fail the final exam?
Not to worry! You may, for up to one year and at no extra cost, take the final exam as many times as necessary to successfully complete the course.

Is self-study accepted in my state?
Yes. All state boards accept self-study programs compliant with the CPE Standards promulgated jointly by the AICPA and NASBA. As a member of NASBA's QAS Self-Study program, you can be assured that our self-study courses will be accepted in your state. Please check with your state board to ensure that you can fulfill 100% of your mandatory CPE through the self-study venue.

Do I need external speakers or headphones?
If you are using a laptop or mobile device, we recommend using external speakers or headphones.
